Assistant Teacher

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Assist the Lead Educator in planning, supervising, and implementing a stimulating program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Early Childhood Department and the JCC.  Assist the Lead Educator in gearing the program to the individual needs of each child with special concern for their interests, talents, learning styles, and family dynamics.  Helping each child become aware of their role as an integral member of the group and treating them with dignity and respect.  Assist the Lead Educator in maintaining the ordered arrangement and appearance of a child-centered classroom. Assist in general housekeeping of the classroom.  Communicating daily with families about the children’s experiences, growth and developmental milestones, under the direct supervision of the Lead Educator. Observing and recording children's behavior during routines and transitions. Assisting the Lead Educator with writing formal assessment tools for each child. Attending all staff meetings and other recommended JCC functions.  Participate in and document at least 12 clock hours of continuing education a year. Plus 3 additional hours on health and safety issues.  Attending meetings and conferences of professional organizations as a representative of the Early Childhood Department. Participation in professional organizations is highly recommended.  Report to the Early Childhood Director or Early Childhood Assistant Director.  Other duties as assigned.   The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Monitoring children's indoor/outdoor activities Responding to children's needs in a positive and courteous manner Participating in small group activities Maintain the ordered arrangement and appearance of a child-centered classroom. Assist in general housekeeping of the classroom. Support and work together with other educators Follow all school procedures and regulations
