About this role

The ideal candidate will join a collaborative, relationship-focused team and have an interest in marketing, communications and/or community engagement. This is a part-time, student employment position of 10-12 hours a week for 10 weeks with no benefits. Within the division of Institutional Advancement, the MassBay Office of Development and Alumni Relations builds, strengthens, and honors relationships with alumni, donors, and volunteers who care about MassBay and want to stay connected to the College. These relationships help create opportunities and provide resources for current and future students. The Institutional Advancement Student Intern will support this work by helping identify, connecting with, and sharing stories of alumni and volunteers. Through research, outreach, and writing, the intern will create profiles for the MassBay website, newsletters, and social media, while assisting with communication and relationship-building efforts across the office. Individualized learning outcomes will be developed collaboratively between the intern and supervisor. This internship provides hands-on, professional communications experience and the chance to explore careers in advancement and nonprofit fundraising, which are essential functions at most colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations. Key Responsibilities and Duties Work with staff across the department and the College, including faculty and campus partners, to 1) identify alumni who were actively engaged as students and 2) individuals who currently volunteer their time to support MassBay; - Collect background information about selected alumni and volunteers through online research and conversations with those that know them; - Contact selected alumni and volunteers via phone and/or email to request interviews and schedule conversations; - Conduct interviews (phone, virtual, or email) to gather updates and personal stories; - Write clear, engaging profiles for use on the MassBay website, newsletters, and social media; - Collect or coordinate photographs of interviewees for use on the MassBay website, newsletter, and social medial; - Maintain organized records of outreach and needed follow up; - Attend weekly 1:1 meetings with direct supervisor; and - Other duties as assigned. This list is not to be considered all-inclusive. A supervisor may assign other duties as required to meet the needs of the College.
